When I began transcribing my late Oma's travelogues in January, 2024 for her Instagram profile @pegsprojects I had no idea how impactful it would be.
From a purely nostalgic perspective alone, her travelogues from 1966 (the year I was born), 1970-73 and 1975-76 gave me a window into a different world I never knew or had forgotten.
Her thoughtful, playful prose about the time of their lives in places from Amsterdam to Venezuela prompted me to weave her photos, other images and music from the times into each of the over 190 Instagram posts. Over 43,000 words later, her travelogues are now in the cloud/ether hopefully for many others, for many years after I'm gone.
If you haven't already, visit her Instagram profile and maybe you'll understand how special she was. Each post includes an image and music from the times. Each makes me smile.
But Peg's Projects don't end with her travelogues. With their completion, I will now be sharing notes and images from other adventures, beginning with the deconstruction and construction of an 1820s log cabin she and her husband Murray orchestrated in 1963.
On its own, it was a fantastic adventure and bred many, many stories that continue to this day.
Please join me as I relay this adventure and others over the coming months, here and on https://www.instagram.com/pegsprojects/.
