LIFE AND PIECES

To begin, I don't like the word retiree for me.

 

I like how Serena Williams phrased it after she "retired" from competitive tennis in August 2022. She likened her decision to leave the game to new challenges and believed the term retirement is rightfully reserved for others who are truly stepping back from worklife.

 

I've heard other terms to describe it that are equally unappealing to me - encore job...side hustles. I definitely don't want to hustle in my late 50s. I don't want to have to grind out an existence. I'm repositioning. That's it. I've been repositioning since June, 2022 when I left my career as a communicator in health care.

 

That's what this space is about. What I've learned in the time since, what I continue to learn, and how I'm managing life outside of the game, post-pandemic in Toronto, Canada.

 

I hope you enjoy Life and Pieces. I borrowed the title from a Korean/English journal I bought which is designed to capture ideas, questions, phrases, conversations, media, sketches, etc.
